NBA players have been reaching out to Kevin Love from inside the Orlando bubble

NBA Champion and five-time All-Star Kevin Love says he still thinks about committing suicide. On this weekend’s episode of In Depth with Graham Bensinger, Love talks about the low point he reached in 2012 where he began researching ways to take his own life, his ongoing battle with mental health, and how, through The Kevin Love Fund, he is working to help others. Plus:

  • Love discusses the sacrifices he made playing with LeBron James,
  • Why Cleveland hasn’t traded him,
  • The greed he encountered in college recruitment,
  • And how therapy helped him accept himself.

Although Love did not play in the NBA bubble, he says his fellow players have been reaching out, telling him about the difficulties they faced not being able to go home, or be with their families.

KEVIN LOVE: I talked to a number of players, you know that were actually reaching out for help or trying to get with the team therapist that everybody has on the team. And you know thankfully, not only at [the Kevin Love Fund], but through the NBAPA, we kind of have the resources now. Which, you know, I’m hoping will continue to grow and keep pushing that. You know what therapy’s like, “Hey listen, I’m open to it, this has been a tough time for me, I’m away from my family.” Because they weren’t to even have family members until, I believe, seven weeks in. It’s only one person, people missed their kids. You know, not able to go home. And you know, it was taking a toll not only on the physical component but really from a mental side too.
