The Atlanta Hawks are in play to acquire Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Hayward, 30, has “plenty of interest,” Haynes notes.

A sign-and-trade is reportedly an option, but the Hawks have the most cap space in the league at around $44 million and could simply sign Hayward to a multi-year deal if he were to decline his $34.2 million option with the Celtics.

This explains why Hayward and the Celtics extended the deadline for his player option to Nov. 19.

It has been reported that the Hawks are planning to be aggressive this offseason through trades and free agency in order to build a win-now roster centered around young stars Trae Young and John Collins.

It’s unclear who the Hawks would send to the Celtics in a potential trade for Hayward, but possible pieces include Kevin Huerter, De’Andre Hunter or Cam Reddish.

Hayward averaged 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game last season.
