The FIBA World Cup is reaching the half-way point and Twitter has been buzzing with activity since the partnership between Twitter and FIBA to bring fans second-by-second updates from Spain (ignoring the first day glitch).

Today will bring the Round of 16 to a close as by midnight (Spanish time), the quarter-final picture will be complete. And after their “performance” against Angola, Australia will face Turkey in Barcelona in what will be an interesting contest. FIBA commentator Jeff Taylor, who is in the Catalan city made this bold prediction.

Agreed.

The hosts Spain beat Senegal last night in Madrid, but despite the scoreline, and the fact that the Spanish won each quarter,the Africans made life hard at times and showed no fear, going right at the joint favourites.

Pau Gasol top scored with 17 points, and praised the teamwork shown in the win.

Staying with Spain and Ricky Rubio was in sublime form again in the win against Senegal. He notched up 7 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. But as journalist Mark Woods in Madrid tweeted, there is still a part in Rubio’s game that worries us all, maybe even his team-mates. But they have a plan to fix the minor problem.

The pick of the second round games though no doubt stays in Madrid as Brazil face rivals Argentina in a rematch of the 2010 World Cup (was world championship) second round game. Brazil trained last night, and this morning had a light shoot around before they tip in the final Round of 16 game. San Antonio Spurs big man Tiago Splitter was relaxed when he took to Twitter.

Don’t know if Splitter is putting on a “game face” for the camera but it didn’t work.
