Czech Rep and Italy secure wins to set up Sunday showdown

Czech Republic and Italy both collected wins in Group D to add even more importance to what looks like a mouth watering match-up on Sunday in Riga.

Czech Republic posted an excellent second half effort against Denmark to open up the contest and cruise their way to an 84-64 victory.

Now possessing an unbeaten 3-0 record, they could potentially book their place at the Final Round if they overcome Italy in their next game and Denmark can beat Romania.

Lenka Bartakova had one of her best ever games in a national team vest as she tore the Danes apart with an energetic 17 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds – her assists tally being the highest of the Qualifiers so far.

Meanwhile the experienced Katerina Elhotova dropped 21 points via an eye-catching 8-of-10 shooting effort.

Italy will be out for revenge against the Czechs, having lost in the fist encounter. However they will head into the game with confidence after new head coach Lino Lardo took a first victory since taking the reins.

He guided his team to a 90-68 success against Romania, which was instigated by some sharp shooting from Francesca Pan during the early stages.

She finished with 13 points, with teammate Cecilia Zandalasini adding 18 points and 8 assists. Meanwhile Elisabeth Pavel landed a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds in defeat.
