Real Madrid suffered, but finally sealed the deal over Crvena Zvezda

After recovering from a 13-point first-quarter deficit, Real Madrid outlasted Crvena Zvezda (67-73) in “Aleksandar Nikolić” Sports Hall.

This was the fourth victory for Real Madrid after eight rounds, while denying the same for the home team (three wins, five defeats).

Crvena Zvezda was leading in the first quarter by 13 points, while Real Madrid had a furious comeback in the third and led by eight (46-54). That advantage of Real was lost in the last part of the match. The hosts regained their lead (65-64), four minutes before the end. Then, Trey Thompkins nailed two threes, while Facundo Campazzo assisted both times. Real Madrid’s defense did the rest.

Zvezda had 5/21 from the three-point range, and only two players scored all those threes – Jordan Loyd (3) and Corey Walden (2). On the other hand, Real Madrid had 20 turnovers, while the home team had 15.

Of 11 players on the court for Real Madrid, 10 scored the points, while only two had more than 10 – Trey Thompkins (14) and Anthony Randolph (13).

Loyd again had his shooting night. The American guard finished the match with 22 points, but. unfortunately for his team, it wasn’t enough. Walden added 16 points.
