The Miami Heat are hiring former NBA forward Caron Butler as an assistant coach on Erik Spoelstra’s staff, according to Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press.

Butler, 40, has worked as an analyst since he retired from playing in 2018.

He averaged 14.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in 881 regular season games over the course of his 14-year NBA career and was a two-time All-Star in 2007 and 2008.

Butler was drafted No. 10 overall by the Heat in the 2002 NBA Draft and spent two seasons with the team.

He will fill the assistant coach vacancy left by Dan Craig who joined Tyronn Lue’s staff with the Los Angeles Clippers.
