Re-signing Davis Bertans is the top priority for the Washington Wizards, but if they can’t pull it off, there could be another option so he doesn’t leave outright.

Back in August, it was reported that multiple teams with cap space including the Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns have interest in Bertans.

In addition to those teams, it’s expected that three teams without cap space are planning to make sign-and-trade offers for Bertans, according to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.

The teams were not named, but sources told Hughes that there are two in the Eastern Conference and one in the Western Conference.

The Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets showed interest in trading for Bertans at the trade deadline this past season, so those teams could also be in the mix.

The Wizards will have the first meeting and first opportunity to sign Bertans when free agency opens up and because they own his bird rights, they can go past the salary cap with his contract.

Playing alongside John Wall and Bradley Beal may also be an incentive for Bertans to re-sign with the Wizards.

This season, the soon-to-be 28-year-old averaged a career-best 15.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 3.7 three-pointers per game in 29.3 minutes per game.
