NBPA tentatively accepts NBA proposal to begin 2020/21 season on Dec. 22

The 2020/21 NBA season is now very likely to begin in December.

It appears we could have NBA basketball on Christmas Day, folks. The Athletic’s Shams Charania is reporting that the National Basketball Players Association has voted to tentatively approve the league’s proposal to begin the 2020/21 season on December 22 and host a 72-game schedule.

Charania notes the two parties will focus their attention on finalizing health and safety protocols for the upcoming campaign and are also discussing a 17-18 percent escrow of player salaries over the next two years.

A minimum of 2 percent salary cap and luxury tax annual growth for the duration of the collective bargaining agreement is also a subject of discussion, with the cap expected to be at $109 million in the off-season.
