FIBA World Cup updates 02/9/14

Check the latest updates on the fourth day of the World Cup in Spain, with games to be played in Groups C and D. Australia will have the chance to prove themselves against Lithuania in the match of the day.

Group C

Ukraine surprised Turkey 64-58. The massive game by Asik, with 16 points and 20 rebounds, was useless to reply the all around game of Ukrainian players. Mishula scored 19 points to lead the winning side.

USA beat New Zealand 98-71, as expected, but it was harder than expected. The All Blacks played with confidence and hitted a lot of three-pointers in the first half, but the American players were just strong enough for them. Davis scored 21 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, but it was Faried the most impressive player on court. Just amazing how much energy he has.

In a surprising game,  Dominican Republic defeated Finland 68-74. Vargas scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. This win makes things in group C even more complicated, leaving two more exciting rounds yet to be played.

Group D

Mexico destroyed Angola 55-79 to get their first victory after a huge game by Hernandez and Ayon, who went to score 24 and 17 points each. For Angola, only Moreira with 17 points and 9 rebounds could face the challengue. This is the first and a key win for Mexico, which still has a chance to qualify for the next round.

Australia topped Lithuania 82-75. The victory came after an amazing first half by the Aussies, which managed to get a 19-point lead. Nevertheless, Seibutis scored 21 points in the lossing effort. Joe Ingles and Aaron Baynes dominated inside and outside for the winning side, with 18 and 14 points each.

Slovenia defeated South Korea 72-89 in a tough game which was decided in the third quarter, when the European side could run. Goran Dragic shined with 22 points.
