Bradley Beal opened up about his decision to sign a two-year contract extension with the Washington Wizards.

Beal revealed that he agreed to a 1+1 extension in order to have the flexibility to opt out of his contract, if the team is not on the winning track.

“You still want to be able to protect yourself and kinda be selfish. How can I create some type of flexibility for myself if we aren’t winning, if I do choose to get out,” Beal said during his appearance on JJ Redick’s podcast.

Beal previously signed a five-year, $128 million max contract with the Wizards back in 2016. Under his new contract, Beal can enter free agency in 2022 and also has a player option for 2023.
