Stephen Silas agreed to terms to become the new Houston Rockets’ head coach. Despite not having previous experience on such role, Silas impressed the Rockets FO with his offensive planning.

Silas was an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, helping the team produce the most efficient offense in the history of the NBA lead by Luka Doncic.

Here’s what ESPN’s Mark Jones said of the team’s hiring process, per USA Today Sports:

“The Houston Rockets won this hire. Stephen Silas ran the Mavs’ offense. I’m told he blew the Rockets’  brass away with his presentation. His offensive vision for Houston.”

Houston has James Harden, one of the most efficient scorer of the league in its roster, while Russell Westbrook is a great first-tier superstar as a triple-double machine.

Silas edged out finalists and more experienced coaches Jeff Van Gundy and John Lucas for the Rockets’ job becoming the second rookie head coach for next season, after Indiana’s Nate Bjorkgren.
