The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired Malik Beasley and Juancho Hernangomez at the trade deadline to add depth to the team’s roster headlined by Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell.
Now, both players will be restricted free agents in the upcoming offseason. The Wolves’ vice-president Sachin Gupta spoke to reporters about the possibility of re-signing them both.
“We do have plenty of room below the tax. We’ve got our own free agents with Malik and Juancho, so with the Bird rights we’ll be able to re-sign those guys,” Gupta said, per Dane Moore.
That means Minnesota is willing to discuss with both players having the means to keep them in the Twin Cities for the time being.
Also, they could play a role as trading chips on a potential blockbuster trade for Timberwolves, who are willing to give up the No.1 overall pick in the 2020 Draft, if the offer is right for them.
Beasley showed great ability as ‘a microwave’ scorer with the Timberwolves, averaging 20.7 points on 42% from beyond the arc in 14 games he played, before the season came to an end on March.
On the other hand, Hernangomez is a versatile forward/center, who averaged 12 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest in 14 games with the Timberwolves.
