The new Brooklyn Nets head coach weighed in on the GOAT debate in soccer (football). During the Nets’ town hall, the Hall of Famer said Barcelona forward Lionel Messi is the GOAT and is way above the others.

Messi, 33, has won ten La Liga titles, four Champions League titles, six Ballon d’Or’s among many other accolades. Nash’s comments stirred controversy because he left out Cristiano Ronaldo, another player who is included in the GOAT debates.

Per Nick Friar of USA Today:

“I think Messi is the greatest player of all time. I think he’s just leaps and bounds better than the rest. It’s been incredible — I feel privileged to be able to live through his era and watch him play as the game’s evolved. The athletes have evolved, the schemes have evolved and he’s still as prolific or more prolific than anyone we’ve ever seen.”
