With former Olympiacos player, Wade Baldwin being the top scorer for Bayern against his former team, Bayern Munich defended their home against the “Reds” and got the win, 74-68, after a close match on Friday night (23/10). The hosts found offensive solutions when needed against Olympiacos who didn’t give up on the game and fought until the last minute.

Wade Baldwin was the top scorer for Bayern Munich with 18 points with Vladimir Lucic following with 16. For Olympiacos, Kostas Papanikolaou had a convincing performance with 13 points whilst Charles Jenkins added 12.

The Match

For the first six minutes both teams were going head-to-head (10-10) but that’s when Bayern got a six-point advantage with two three pointers with Vladimir Lucic and Wade Baldwin (16-10). Olympiacos’ 6 turnovers in the first quarter (10 in the first half), let Bayern keep the advantage they had built and end the first quarter leading by four points (22-18).

Despite a three-point shot from Charles Jenkins at the beginning of the second quarter that brought the game to an one-point difference, Bayern run their own 7-0 and got their lead back (29-21). Olympiacos fought back, with Sasha Vezenkov and Charles Jenkins running a 10-2 score (33-32). Some bad offensive decisions from the Greeks let Bayern finish the first half leading by five points (39-34).

In the third quarter, Olympiacos came back playing some great defense and tied the game (41-41). Two free-throws from Kostas Papanikolaou gave Olympiacos the lead for the first time (49-50). That’s when Wade Baldwin with two consecutive baskets gave the lead back to his team (53-50), to even extend it later on in the quarter and finish it with an eight-point lead (61-53).

Olympiacos didn’t give up in the fourth and final quarter, with Charles Jenkins leading the team both offensively and defensively. With the Germans keeping that 10 to 8 point difference that they had built, Olympiacos was really trying to come back. The only thing the Greeks managed to do is bring the game to a six point difference with two free throws from Kostas Papanikolaou (70-64). Bayern was calm enough to keep their lead and end the fourth quarter and the match, 74-68, taking another important win for Euroleague Round 5.
