NBA G League veteran Andre Ingram has been named the president of the newly-formed G League Players Union, the Basketball Players Union (BPU).
David Stockton, who played for the South Bay Lakers this season, the Los Angeles Lakers G League affiliate, was named vice president of the union and top G League prospect Isaiah Todd, who will play for the G League Ignite Select Team, was named the secretary-treasurer.
The committee is considered an “interim” group, as Shams Charania notes in the above tweet, so it’s not clear if that means that these three players will be replaced or if there will eventually be more positions added.
The BPU will represent all G League teams, including the Ignite Select Team and players on two-way contracts will still be represented by the NBPA.
The idea that G League players might unionize came up back in April and it was officially announced that G League players formed their own union back in July.
Ingram, 34, is the all-time leader in games played in the G League with 449, making him the perfect fit to be the first president of the BPU.
Stockton, 29, son of Hall-of-Famer John Stockton, is also a G League veteran, having played 169 total games since 2014.
