Spanish Liga Endesa Review Round 6

Baskonia defeated Barcelona in the most interesting game of the weekend, with amazing performances by Polonara and Giedraitis.

MoraBanc Andorra 87 – 82 Hereda San Pablo Burgos

Two of the most exciting teams in the league faced off in a tough game which was only decided in overtime. Clevin Hannah proved once again that he is enjoying a second youth in Andorra, scoring 28 points. He was well supported by Tomasz Gielo, a recent addition to the team, who added 15 points and 9 rebounds. For Burgos, McFadden scored 20 points while Horton added a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Urbas Fuenlabrada 100 – 102 BAXI Manresa

Fun basketball game played in Fuenlabrada, where the local team lost a close game to an inspired Manresa. Fuenlabrada must be wondering what they need to do to win a game this season, considering that not even the outstanding game by Marc García, who scored 33 points, was enough. The reason was the balanced attack of Manresa, where up to six players scored in double digits, with Belgian playmaker Tabu leading with 16 points.

Iberostar Tenerife 86 – 82 Joventut

Another close game played this round between two of the top ranked teams in the league. Tenerife got its fifth straight win after a great game by Shermadini and Fitipaldo, as usual, well supported by Rodríguez, who scored 14 points in just 18 minutes. For the visiting team, Tomic had an amazing night with 18 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, but it was not enough. We can do nothing but acknowledge the great season the Croatian center is having so far.

Monbus Obradoiro 85 – 76 Acunsa GBC

Birutis. The trendy name in the league. Today he was the leader for Obradoiro again with 20 points and six boards. Robertson added 16 points and Pozas had an all-around game with seven points, five rebounds and seven assists. Echenique could not lead GBC today, and the visiting team struggled to find a leader. Tough season for them so far, with only one win in their record after four games.

Coosur Real Betis 80 – 81 Movistar Estudiantes

Close game played in Seville between two teams trying to find their game so far. The first twenty minutes where a show of how not to win a game, with lots of mistakes, in spite of the scoring skills of Roberson.

The first half ended 39-38, and the score continued the really close until the beginning of the last quarter, when Estudiantes displayed a 2-3 zonal defense which gave them a 13-point lead (60-73). That, and the surprising performance of Christ Koumadje, the tallest player in the league (2.24m), who proved to be a wall under the boards while playin the whole last quarter after being barely used in the previous games. A truly hidden gem.

The local team tried its best in the last minutes, and they had the last shot to win the game, but Borg missed the alley-oop.

Casademont Zaragoza 98 – 86 UCAM Murcia

Zaragoza managed to get a very needed win against a visiting team which did not find its way in the game until the second half, when it was too late. Ennis led the local team with 17 points, well supported by Seeley and Benzing with 16 points apiece. Luka Rupnik played his first minutes with the team. For Murcia, Frankamp scored 20 points, proving to be really consistent this year, while Lima and Radovic added 15 points each.

TD Systems Baskonia 82 – 71 Barcelona

The match between the two Spanish powerhouses finished as it is the common trend in recent games. The local team managed to win the game after getting a 10-point lead by the end of the third quarter. Giedraitis, Polonara and Vildoza led the local team with a combined effort to put up 47 points. For Barcelona, Heurtel and Davies had to led the team, since Mirotic missed the game.

Herbalife Gran Canaria 80 – 84 Unicaja

Unicaja is slowly finding its game this season after a struggling start, while Gran Canaria got another defeat and remains with only 1 win so far. Brizuela led the team from behind the arc with 23 points, while Guerrero was a force under the boards with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. A much need game for the Spanish center, who could not find his place in the team so far. Albicy and Costello netted 18 points each in the losing effort.

RETAbet Bilbao – Real Madrid was postponed due to Causeur tested positive for COVID-19.
