Despite agreeing to join the Los Angeles Clippers as a lead assistant of the new head coach Tyronn Lue, Chauncey Billups could still be in play to become the head coach of the Indiana Pacers.

According to J.Michaels of the Indianapolis Star, the former NBA champion is not getting precluded from the Pacers’ job, if the franchise made an offer to him.

(via DetroitNews.com):

“A league source with direct knowledge of the situation told IndyStar that Billups, who has been a TV analyst for the Clippers, will join them on the bench ‘if he doesn’t get the Indy job.’” Michael wrote. “He’s still a candidate to replace Nate McMillan, who was fired in August after a first-round playoff exit,” J. Michael wrote.

As J.Michael reports in his piece, Billups is a serious candidate to be among the finalists for the Indiana Pacers’ job due to his strong relationship with several players around the league.

Also, the former Houston Rockets’ head coach Mike D’Antoni is expected to be a strong consideration for the Pacers’ head coaching vacancy.
