Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd has emerged as a potential candidate to fill the New Orleans Pelicans head coaching vacancy.
With the Lakers coming off their championship, Kidd’s value may be at its peak right now after he was a key assistant on head coach Frank Vogel’s staff.
The Pelicans are set to start interviewing finalists for their head coach at the end of this week and interviews will go into early next week, according to ESPN’s Andrew Lopez, who expects the team to talk to three-to-four finalists.
The Pelicans reportedly ended up interviewing nine candidates before reducing that number.
Kidd’s name originally popped up after Alvin Gentry was dismissed, but rumors around Kidd went away for a while before he was brought up again in the last couple of days.
Tyronn Lue is also still a prominent part of the Pelicans, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers’ coaching search.
Kidd and Lue are the only known potential candidates on the Pelicans’ short list at this time, with the other couple of names possibly coming out soon once the job interviews begin.
