Jonathon Simmons, who participated in the Golden State Warriors recent bubble minicamp, is signing with the Liaoning Flying Lepoards in China.
Simmons reportedly impressed in the minicamp, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
Steve Kerr said he believes Simmons still has “NBA years” ahead of him.
“Jonathon Simmons has had a good week of camp and still has years to offer in the NBA, in my opinion,” Kerr recently said.
He also went on to say that Simmons could be a possible fit for the Warriors, as they “could use length on the wing.”
The 31-year-old began his NBA career with the San Antonio Spurs (2015-2017) and was a key player during their 2017 playoff run.
Simmons then had a career-best season with the Orlando Magic in 2017-2018, averaging 13.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
He was then traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019 where he only played 15 games, before being acquired and waived by the Washington Wizards before the start of the 2019-2020 NBA season.
Simmons signed with the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Warriors’ G League affiliate, back in February in an attempt to make a return to the NBA.
The coronavirus pandemic put his comeback effort on hold, but his solid performance at the Warriors’ minicamp helped earn him an opportunity overseas for now.
