Adam Silver opened up about the diverse way the NBA teams’ coach searches should be contacted. The NBA Commissioner spoke on the six head coaching vacancies that they are still open.

Silver opposed to the idea of implementing a “Rooney rule” type for the NBA teams. The Rooney Rule is an NFL policy that requires league teams to interview ethnic-minority candidates for head coaching and senior football operation jobs.

“Teams should hire whoever they want and the NBA has no plans for any type of ‘Rooney Rule’,” Adam Silver said in his pre-Finals media availability, per USA Today Sports.

Silver concluded his statement on the matter by saying the league ‘could do better’, after referring to the current open head coaching jobs.
