Miami eliminated the Boston Celtics (4-2), while James and the Los Angeles Lakers won the series against the Denver Nuggets (4-1).
James spent four years with the Heat (2010-2014), reaching the NBA Finals four straight years and winning back-to-back titles (2012, 2013).
Game 1 between the Lakers and the Heat is on Wednesday.
