Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart has said he has no regrets over the way things played out in the wake of his team’s second loss to the Miami Heat.
Following Miami’s snatching of a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals, reporters claimed to have heard lots of screaming coming from the Celtics’ locker room, with one press member reporting having heard the sound of items being thrown. Smart was at the heart of it all and is said to have gotten into it with teammate Jaylen Brown after Brown tried to get him to calm down.
According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, Smart thinks the situation was handled perfectly and has no regrets.
“No, I don’t have any regrets,” he was quoted as saying. “And I don’t have any regrets with how my teammates handled it either. I think we handled it perfectly. If you can’t talk, if you can’t yell, if you can’t express how you truly feel with somebody who’s supposed to have your back, somebody who you’re supposed to trust, and vice versa, then are you really supposed to be trusting that person? That’s the type of team we are. We trust each other fully, so for us to be able to yell at each other and get yelled (at) back—and move on (is important). And that’s just what it is.”
The Celtics have since cut Miami’s lead in half, with the series now at 2-1, and will hope to even things up when they face off again this Wednesday.
