The Brooklyn Nets are trying to add a high prestige NBA coach as they are targeting Jeff Van Gundy to be Steve Nash’s assistant coach, per Shams Charania.

The former Knicks and Rockets coach is an ESPN analyst these days, after his successful coaching career in the NBA. Van Gundy was among the consideration for the Nets’ job prior to Nash’s hire.

Along with JVG, Lakers’ assistant Phil Handy could also be on the mix, as Brooklyn is trying to surround Nash with experienced assistant coaches.

Nash, who was one of the best NBA point guards during the 2000s, has a great relationship with Kevin Durant and Nets’ general manager Sean Marks.
