The NBA has informed teams of a potential revised 2020 NBA Draft date of Nov. 18, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
The league and the NBPA have been negotiating that new date.
The NBA also plans to further discuss the Nov. 18 date with the Board of Governors and general managers in meetings this week and it could become finalized soon, Wojnarowski notes.
There are multiple reasons why teams wanted the draft moved back.
With a November draft, there will be more time for pre-draft preparation, a possible combine (which was postponed in May) and more time to ultimately gather information on the potential start date for next season.
A significant part of why teams wanted the draft pushed back was to allow the league and NBPA more time to negotiate the new salary cap numbers for 2020-2021, according to Wojnarowski.
Teams reportedly need those figures to be able to conduct trades around the draft.
The NBA and NBPA recently agreed to push back some key dates including the draft (previously Oct. 16), free agency (previously Oct. 18) and the start of the 2020-2021 season.
