Euroleague’s One Team on shortlist for Beyond Sport award

One Team, Euroleague Basketball’s acclaimed Corporate Social Responsibility programme, received more recognition of its accomplishments when it was placed on the Official Shortlist for the Beyond Sport Awards 2014. One Team is among four nominees for Sport Federation or Governing Body of the Year. One Team representatives have accordingly been invited to the Beyond Sport Global Summit 2014 in Johannesburg, South Africa, in late October, where the winners will be announced.

The Beyond Sport Foundation is a global organization that promotes, develops and funds the use of sport to create positive social change across the world.  Its annual summit brings together the best sport-led social innovators with influential, global leaders to address sport’s role in driving positive social change.

One Team, which is supported by Turkish Airlines, features 17 club-sponsored projects in nine countries across Europe.  It has also partnered with world-class clubs, including AC Milan, FC Internazionale and, CUS Rugby, and the Queens Park Rangers Community Trust, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Charlton Athletics Community Trust in England. Together with these and other partners and organizations across the globe, One Team develops and promotes educational programmes that use the power of basketball to integrate communities.

Current One Team projects involve working with youths suffering from substance abuse, physical or intellectual disabilities, gender inequality and those economically disadvantaged. Since One Team’s founding in 2012, its programs have directly reached 5,000 participants and can account for 5,000 more indirect participants.

The 2014 Beyond Sport Awards feature 33 nominees in nine categories.  The other finalists for Sport Federation or Governing Body of the Year are the Hockey Association of Malawi, the International Table Tennis Federation, which is headquartered in Switzerland, and Premiership Rugby from the United Kingdom.
