Jayson Tatum opened up about his relationship with Kyrie Irving, after the latter departed from Boston last summer to play in Brooklyn for the Nets.

“Ky is like my big brother,” Tatum told Shams Charania of The Athletic, as transcribed by Masslive.com. “We still talk to this day, and we’ve talked a few times these playoffs. He always encourages me to be special. Having that relationship with him and having somebody like him in my ear at a young age, it means a lot.”

Tatum is in the middle of his best postseason of his career averaging 27.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in six games in the postseason.

The Celtics remain undefeated in six playoff games with Tatum being one of the best players in the postseason. The young Celtics’ star added that Irving told him “this is my time and to embrace that role and be that dude”.

Tatum embraced the challenge of being the “go-to-guy” shooting 46.5 percent from 3-point range. He is also had 48.7 percent from the field in just his third season in the NBA postseason.
