Michael Jordan has served as a voice of reason during the NBA players strike that started yesterday after the Milwaukee Bucks decided to not play in Game 5 of the series against the Orlando Magic.
According to ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan:
“Jordan, owner of the Charlotte Hornets – and the only Black majority owner in the league – reached out to National Basketball Players Association president Chris Paul, league sources told ESPN, in advance of the owners meeting to get a better understanding of what the players hoped to achieve going forward and to offer assistance as they make their case to the NBA board of governors.”
Jordan, who is considered by many as the greatest player ever, is the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets since 2010.
According to the report, Jordan favored the continuation of the season as the best way for the players to keep social change subject relevant to the masses.
MacMullan also wrote that owners expressed “unanimously their support to the players and spent much of their meeting discussing ways in which they could amplify the players’ voices.”
After the owners’ meeting on Thursday morning, the players decided earlier in the evening to continue play, while pursuing change.
