Serbia likely to lose Nedovic for the World Cup

Serbia’s Nemanja Nedovic looks likely to miss the FIBA World Cup of Basketball later this month due to a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal.

The Golden State Warriors guard injured his foot during a warm-up tournament in Trieste, Italy earlier this week.

The guard last suited up for Serbia at Eurobasket 2013, where they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Spain. Nedovic averaged 8.9 points and 2.6 rebounds a game.

The 23-year-old began his career with Red Star Belgrade before moving to Lithuania to play for Lietuvos Rytas in 2012. He was selected with 30th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns but was moved on to the Warriors.

Nedovic has had spells in the NBA D-League since getting drafted.

The Serbians are housed in Group A at the World Cup, alongside hosts Spain, France, Brazil, Egypt and Iran with the games being played in Grenada.
