Jankunas joins Khimki to replace Garbajosa PDF Print E-mail
2009-08-13 19:36
Paulius JankunasThe representatives of Khimki officially confirmed to LNK news that the club singed the contract with Paulius Jankunas. 25-year-old forward was close to staying with Zalgiris for another season but in the end the offer from the Russian club was much better. It is reported that Jakunas will earn twice more in Khimki than he would have earned in Zalgiris.

Jankunas joins Khimki as a replacement for Spanish international Jorge Garbajosa who is rumoured to be on his way to Real Madrid. Jankunas will be the second Lithuanian player at Khimki after Russian league runners-up signed Robertas Javtokas from Dynamo Moscow.

Last season Jankunas averaged 13.8 points and 8 rebounds per game in Euroleague for Zalgiris. He was one of the key players for the Lithuanian club spending 31 minutes per game on the court.

Khimki will make their Euroleague debut next season in Group D alongside defending champions Panathinaikos, Real Madrid, AJ Milano, Asseco Prokom and Oldenburg.
