Yesterday, the newspaper El Mundo published their list of the most influential Spaniards for 2009. For the second consecutive year, José Manuel Calderón appeared on this list. Specifically, he was named one of the 25 most influential amongst the young people and he also was named the third most influential in his local region of Extremadura. He was preceded by Guillermo Fernández Vara and Dolores Aguilar, President and Vice President of the Extremadura government.

Yesterday José Manuel suffered a muscular injury during the game against Houston for which he has to be under observation for the next couple of days. He will not be participating in the next two games but the medical team of the Raptors will make a follow up diagnosis after following the evolution of the injury. The MRI conducted yesterday did not detect a serious injury.
With the start of the New Year, I want to take the opportunity to introduce the latest version of my website and to review how I see things. I hope you enjoy it.
The 2008 year has ended, and personally I can only describe it as a positive year. It was a year where I managed to take over many responsibilities on my team and I think I started to be respected in the NBA and also got an Olympic silver medal with Spain in Beijing.
Also I think that the fans and the general public, have positively valued my work and I would like to thank all those who are voting for me to go to the All Star. They told me that as of today I have received nearly two hundred thousand votes and that gives me great pride. Above all, when I see the names appearing on this list, players who before coming to the NBA I watched on television and whom I admired.
Nevertheless, the best of this year that just ended has been the commitment to sign with my team, with the Raptors.

Yesterday José Manuel established a record for the active NBA players by scoring 75 free throws without missing one. All of the free throws made this season accounted here as well as the three last shots of the last season. José Manuel scored five more in the 07-08 Play Offs but following the NBA stat system, these did not count. The former record holder was the Canadian Steve Nash with 74.
The record of 75 consecutive free throws is in addition to his best personal record, the best record of the Canadian franchise (Billups with 51 held the last record) and the 5th best record in the history of the NBA shared with Ricky Pierce. In front of him, there is Mark Price with 77, Calvin Murphy with 78, Abdul Rauf with 81 and Marcus Williams with 97.
Today we are traveling West where we are going to have three consecutive games in four days. It will not be easy but our mentality is to win as many games as possible. Everyone that has been following us knows that we are not playing well. More than anything, we are not been consistent but never the less, we cannot fall in the temptation to think that the season is lost. I refuse to accept that today we are resigned to not play in the Play Offs, nor to play for the ring and to not improve the accomplishments of the past two seasons.
Yesterday afternoon we received the news: Jay Triano will replace Sam Mitchell.
I have been through this situation just a few times in my career, perhaps many years ago with Andreu Casadevall in Alicante my first year in the ACB, but I can assure you that it is not a pleasant experience.
In my case, Sam has been my only coach since I came to the NBA...
