Drazen Petrovic: 20 years on

It was 20 years ago today that basketball lost one of the true greats. Drazen Petrovic is a name that basketball fans throughout the world are (and should be) familar with.

Lithuanian Basketball Celebrates 90-year anniversary (videos)

Kaunas Sports Hall hosted the celebration to commemorate the 90-year anniversary of Lithuanian basketball on Sunday. On that special evening, the arena was packed with famous names – from the Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF) President Arvydas Sabonis and his counterparts from Latvia, Estonia, Georgia and other national federations to the FIBA General Secretary Nar Zanolin himself and many others, devoted to Lithuanian basketball – basketball veterans, coaches, referees, organizers and politicians.

At the 1948 Olympics, basketball returned for its second appearance as a medal event and it also reverted back to an indoor format following the horrendous weather conditions in 1936.

Vassilis Spanoulis is merely the 13th player that has jumped sides since the establishment of the professional Greek League. Five players have gone from Olympiacos to Panathinaikos, while Olympiacos are "shopping" from their rivals more oftenly as Spanoulis is the 8th player to come from Panathinaikos.

When Yugoslavia won the World Championship (vid)

We stumbled upon this video and just had to share it. The year is 1998 and Yugoslavia just won the FIBA World Championship held in Greece and return victorious to Belgrade where a massive outdoors party is staged and players are dancing alongside the fans.

When you hear the words "dream team" the names such as Micheal Jordan, Magic Johnson, Scottie Pippen come to your mind. That's the squad of USA national team in Barcelona Olympic Games 1992. But that wasn't the only team in Barcelona which deserves the title "dream team". The other dream team was Lithuania.
