2011/12 Adriatic League News, Fixtures & Results
#21
Today's the game against Lasko! for the first time we'll see Theodoros Papaloukas, a Euroleague legend, wearing yellow in an official game. I know he's old and stuff but I really am excited <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/baby.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Baby' />

And since I talked about one Greek, let's talk about our other Greek <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' /> last game Sofo looked like a beast, he looks like he lost some weight and became more muscular.. Will Lasko have an answer for the beast?

I won't blame them.. many teams with bigger budgets and better players couldn't stop him <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' /> but then came Obradovic <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bag.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Bag' />

Maccabi 83 Novo Mesto 68

Sofo 18, Farmar 11, Smith 11, Ohayon 8 (5 steals), James 8 (3 blocks according to Adriatic league site but I counted at least 5, and he played only 14 minutes), Burstein 8 (surprised with a good game)

My impressions from the game-a SG is needed, absolutely no doubt about that. most of the game we played either with 2 PGs, Tal as SG (he wasn't bad but he definitely can't play more than 10 minutes in euroleague level) or with Smith as SG, Scheyer didn't get to play a lot and when he did he showed nothing special.

Farmar is not forcing at all, standing aside most of the time but when it's needed from him, he easily takes the ball to the rim.

Yogev is continuing his very good performances just like preparation games and seem to know his place in the team.

James have put some extra weight on him this summer, huge improvement and his blocking and rebounding skills are just as great as they used to be and I won't be surprised if we see him play quite some time in the Euroleague as well.

PS-Papaloukas didn't play.

You indeed have a problem in SG.

I think Keith Langford would be an awesome choice for you!! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Maccabi would be at least +20%!! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Why Papaloukas didn't play? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Huh' />

Langford would be great for us, I agree, but 99% he won't come simply because he's too expensive..

As for Papaloukas-we have 13 players, which means 1 have to sit out, since Papaloukas had a minor injury in his knee Blatt decided to let him rest instead of putting an other player out and risking in a worse injury of Papaloukas.

Maccabi 101 Lasko 72

Eliyahu 18, Sofo 18 (9 reb), Pnini 12, Macvan 10, Smith 10, Hendrix 9 (8 reb), James 8

An easy game that was over VERY early, Blatt tried many different line-ups and Maccabi was playing beautiful basketball, was fun to watch and scary to think how good this team can be with a high level SG

For Maccabi how it started ABA will be better to back to Israeli League(nothing different) <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' />

Anyway I'm glad for Macvan he finally played good <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Lasko maybe is in a level of an average Israeli team, but Novo Mesto, I believe, is better than any other Israeli team (maybe except for Jerusalem). And we only played against 2 relatively weak teams.. Partizan, Olimpija, Cedevita, Cibona are teams we're in this league for <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> overall, it's a much higher level of competition, but there're already journalists criticizing Maccabi for moving to the Adriatic, forgetting that Novo Mesto is a team that won the Eurochallenge where Netanya (who reached the Israeli cup final) got kicked out in top 16, Hemofarm who isn't one of the 1st level teams (not in the level of Partizan and Olimpija) kicked Galil-Gilboa from the Euroleague Qualifying round, and the same Galil team got to the Israeli league final. Teams like Partizan and Olimpija would easily crush any Israeli team. So I know you said it as a joke but the overall level of the teams is much higher, it's just that we got to meet two not very strong teams and Maccabi can make many teams look bad <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' />

Zlatorog Lasko is the youngest team in Adriatic league, with average age only 22 years old. It was really nice to see all the big basketball names in such a small town like Lasko. It was a great experience for Zlatorog youngsters to play against such quality players. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Maccabi will take a big part in developing some young players this season and that is why I welcome them. And I can't wait Partizan Maccabi this season, I think that we will have better games than last year.

Maccabi 97 Cibona 81

Farmar 19 (7 ast), Smith 19, Eliyahu 14, Sofo 11 (5 reb), Blu 11, Hendrix 8 (6 reb), Pnini 8 (4 ast)

The difference between the teams was obvious, the refs were rediculous..

Overall a good game, Farmar's dominance is both good and bad, it is a great thing because he can give big contribution on the highest level and seems to adapt to European game pretty quick, it is bad because with him being so dominant the team will be dependent on him and when he leaves it can hurt the team a lot, that's why it's so important that Maccabi gets another guard quickly, the Perkins solution may be great, even if he won't be back to the good old Perkins 100% he knows the system and knows the players and can get in business quite fast.

I gotta talk about Smith too, the guy isn't forcing anything but when it's needed he can score and he can do it with great efficiency, I'm very happy with him. So far he's killing from the three, maybe the spirit of jersey #6 has something to do with it? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' /> we all remember how #6 for the last 15 years was shooting from behind the arc.

Why Macvan didn't play?

Maccabi has 13 players in its roster so everytime one player has to sit out, first game it was Papaloukas, second game it was Blu, this time Macvan.
