In a knock-out game everything can happen but I don't see them upseting Greece.

Oops.

I didn't see the game. That stinks as Greece had played well and could have made a run in London. The Nigerians should get one of the three places in London after they beat two of the best teams in the tournament but I think that'll lose their next two games in a heartbreaking fashion. However as per my original post my predictions don't carry much weight.

Bah, Zouros complaining about the game being a wrestling match (which it was) and attributing the loss of match to a bad call from the ref when Spanoulis shot the 3. Hellas shouldn't have been trailling in the first place, AND SHOULD HAVE MADE ITS FREE THROWS. The Nigerians shot PERFECTLY from the free throw line, and were impressive with their 1-on-1 moves, getting 3 point play after 3 point play. I think the little experiment of having no heavy centers on the team isn't one that paid off, because under the basket, we were weak, AND COULDN'T GRAB DEFENSIVE REBOUNDS. When will this BS psychology ever end???

I also tip my hat to Nigeria, well done to them, with what limited skill they have.

This game was an absolute disgrace. The balance between defense and offense was nowhere to be seen. Zouros is credited with 50% of the responsibility, and the players the other 50%. Not good ENOUGH!! Nigeria is NOT a talented team, but they did some homework on us, and obviously we took this game very lightly. They played with passion and purpose, whereas we showed nothing resembling spirit!! or even some sort of counter plan FFS!!

Our FT's were absolutely pathetic, and I won't even mention the rebounds we lost and blah blah blah. Our defense was a fuNking joke to boot. Though the Nigerians had a lucky day, and things were just falling in place for them at every turn, the fact still remains we played poorly, and that's no excuse. It's a slap in the face for Hellas. A wake-up call. Spanoulis' last shot of the game was interfered with, but that's no excuse either. We had the 12 point buffer and should've killed the game at that POINT!!! but decided to take time out and go eat a Gyro.

An inferior team defeated a superior team today. I'm disgusted at player attitude, though V-Span gave it his all. If only the rest of his teammates had followed his example. I'm done with this. Olympic basketball is off my menu. Let's hope they psychologically shape up and recover for the next tournament.

Cheers!!

What I've said in my previous post still stands!!! But after watching the final shot Kill Bill attempted in the remaining 2.5 sec of the game at least 20x's, he was absolutely fouled no doubt about it. His hand was hit hard and held back by the No 8 from Nigeria Ade Dagunduro, and thus the ball ended up in South Dakota. Anyone that knows basketball, knows it was a 3 shot foul, and he deserved his 3 shots. That's highway robbery and bullshit refereeing, and I don't give a flying crap how poorly we played. That doesn't even happen in the NBA. If Team Hellas hasn't put in a damn protest to challenge this pathetic decision, then we're frigging idiots. :agree:

Having already seen Nigeria beating Lithuania and still manage to lose is pathetic and unacceptable.

We played NO D throughout the tournament. Greece will always be a defensive minded team. Almost all of our players are good defenders but the same doesn't go for offense. It has always been like that in the last decade. Defense is the alpha and the omega in our game and will always be.
Last night, even when we were making baskets on offense, you knew, you felt, that it's gonna be very difficult to not get one back. They used their athletic abilities and schooled us. IMO, we should play only zone D from the time we lost the lead we had in half time. They made their shots, yeah, but they also made many baskets in the paint. Personally, I'd give them the 3 point shot and I'd live with that.

I really like basketball and I'll most likely watch as many games, in the Olympics, as I can but right now I don't feel like watching any game. :bag:
Even our football team did a hell lot better..... :baby:

Maybe we are a D-fensive tailored side, but we've ran out of excuses. We need to balance D and O according to circumstances. We let a shit kicking scrub like Ade Dagunduro run rings over us. This guy plays basketball about as good as I do. The only thing this scrub can do, is play the one on one and take the lucky shots That's it!! He's also a cheat along with the other Nigerian scrubs as proven during many pick and rolls by fouling many a times. The refs! where were they????.. he was given a non-existent foul and two FT's in the dying stages of the game, but had already committed a foul in the paint moments before. Now we sit back and let the asshole Yanks and everyone else who basically mock and belittle Greeks, Greek nationality, Greek crisis, Greek politics, and everything else that's Greek, and of course Greek Basketball period!

These scrubs should've lost the game by 20 points at minimum. Basketball IQ and spirit will always triumph over athleticism. Though we need to improve on athleticism, that still won't bring any guaranteed success. Our C's just weren't up to par, maybe a Koufos would've helped a little, as I don't like Sofo at all, but that's no excuse. We have the quality, the IQ and the skills to defeat teams like Nigeria, without even pulling a sweat. The dream has vanished, and we need to go back to the drawing board, and plan for the future immediately. Like I said I won't be watching Olympic basketball, especially with the lowly teams that have qualified.

Cheers!!

What I can't understand is this attitude of players not wanting to play for the NT. So much diva-ism, much like the Serbians have been suffering in their NT and the umpteen problems it has generated for them.

No, Nigeria is too inconsistent. They may not beat D.R.

I agree with this but the DR is almost more inconsistent. FYROM was mopping the floor with them in the first half of their game, they looked unbelievably disorganized and then they came out in the second half and lit up FYROM only to get trashed again today by Lithuania. I still think that the DR will win tomorrow as they are the better team but Nigeria may pull it off. What I can't understand is how Nigeria didn't win Afrobasket last summer?

Nor can I Zeus. As for the final match, these Nigerian scrubs will pull it off easily. I mean even the Russians struggled against them, and barely beat them..
