I would have rather seen Rytas playing in the Euroleague even though they wouldn't have made it far. For me the best storyline for Rytas this season is going to be the development of Valanciunas. Jonas would have been much better off banging up against Euroleague caliber bigs even if Rytas lost the games.

From a confidence/momentum factor the Eurocup is much better suited for Rytas this season. They will be contenders.

You make sense here. At least we'll see Motiejunas in Euroleague this season, that's also good thing! And we'll see how Jonas will look in Eurocup, the league is not that bad + VTB where we'll be able to see Jonas vs Motiejunas

I have no doubt Rytas is clear favourite to win Eurocup, along with Khimki. Another trophy and direct ticket to Euroleague would be great.

All are beatable for Rytas. Anything than final would be a fail in my account, having in mind Rytas' roster and Rytas' history in Eurocup. No disrespect to other teams, it's more about what I'm asking from Rytas as a fan.

For me Lietuvos Rytas, Khimki and Valencia are all pretty equal and these three teams are a level above the competition.

Besiktas is the true wild card, they have all kinds of talent but the players need to start to mesh and the NBA season needs to be canceled. If those two things happen then they need to be in the discussion.

Nevertheless there are plenty of teams playing at a high level that could make a run. Rytas needs to take this tournament though.

I caught the Lietuvos Rytas vs. CEZ VTB league game this morning. Lietuvos Rytas TV typically streams the games, which is convenient for foreigners. Tyrese Rice and Lawrence Roberts both had a big game and Rasic put the game away with back-to-back-to-back three pointers. I was surprised that Dzikic preferred to go with Roberts and Samardziski over Valanciunas for most of the second half.

I don't like it either. Valančiūnas had some injuries and so on, but seems like the big, I mean the fat guy doesn't understand it's not only about the question of mediocre Euroleague's clubs interests, but it's a question of the Lithuanian basketball tradition. In other words, for most of the fans, specially since Džikič wasted Euroleague's qualification, it's not the question how Rytas is doing, it's the question - how the hell Valančiūnas is doing!? And to be honest, after this summer, Samardžitski is the last guy I want to see eating Valančiūnas' developing minutes on the flour :P

I agree with pretty much everything you said. My only comment is that Lawrence Roberts was playing really well and was well deserving of remaining on the court. There is no reason why he couldn't play alongside Valanciunas, however.

He wasn't good. Slow start after the injury and only recently he made some progress, but only in shooting threes. Maybe he needs other coach and team, but he was very limited player this season. Džikič called him best 3 point shooter in Rytas by far though.
