The city of Bilbao, will host the Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup) Final Eight next season. The agreement between the ACB, the City of Bilbao and the Bizkaia Provincial Administration has been signed today in Bilbao, that will host its second ACB event after the 2007 Supercup, the competition which opens the season in Spain.
The agreement marks the return of the "Copa" to Bilbao, as this city hasn´t hosted the Spain´s Cup since 1961, when Real Madrid claimed the title defeating FC Barcelona 76-51 in the Final.
Eduardo Portela, ACB President, thanked "The firm support of Bizkaia institutions to professional basketball", outlining that Bilbao is back on the front page of basketball "with the organization of the 2007 Supercup and with next year´s Copa del Rey, besides having great fans and achieving good results, as the team has been in the ACB Playoffs last two seasons, and also reached Eurocup semi-finals in its first European participation".
