BBL Final: Rytas vs. Zalgiris PDF Print E-mail
2008-04-26 10:56
Baltic Basketball LeagueThere were no surprises in Baltic Basketball League Final Four semi-finals. Both favourites won their matches convincingly. This means that for the fourth time in a row we will see the same teams in the final. Lietuvos Rytas and Zalgiris will play against each other for the sixth time this season.

Defending BBL champions Lietuvos Rytas defeated Eurocup winners Barons. Latvians had a good start and lead in double digits in the 1st quarter. But Aleksandar Trifunovic reacted quickly. A couple of timeouts and the game became more organized. Barons won the 1st quarter 21-17. Lietuvos Rytas felt their game and took the lead constantly increasing it. Final score 89-73. Chuck Eidson and Kaspars Berzins were top scorers for their teams with 16 points each.

The other semi-final featured Lithuanian Zalgiris and Latvian champions ASK Riga. The Greens won the first three quarters. They started the final quarter with 22 point lead which gave no doubts about the winner. ASK Riga and Lithuanian national team head coach Ramunas Butautas admitted that the result reflects the level of the teams. Marcus Brown had 18 points making all four 3-pointers. Mamadou N‘Diaye got injured and will probably miss the final against Lietuvos Rytas.
