 The draw which sorted 17 European national teams in four groups to fight for places in Eurobasket 2009 was completed today in Venice, Italy. Turkey, Serbia, Italy and France are the big guns that will have to play qualification games. The games of the qualifying round will be played in August and September 2008. Group winners and three best second placed teams will qualify for Eurobasket 2009. |

 The first day of Euroleague Top brought at least one big surprise. Defending champions and one of the main contenders to win the title this year, Panathinaikos, left Istanbul with a loss. Greek giants were defeated 64:74 by Efes Pilsen. Drew Nicholas led the hosts with 29 points. Andre Hutson was the only other player for Efes to end the game in double digits. |

 Good news for all Lithuanian basketball fans. Žydrūnas Ilgauskas expressed his wish to wear Lithuania national team shirt in Beijing Olympics this summer. One of the best centers in NBA last time played for his country 14 years ago in a friendly game. LKF (Lithuanian Basketball Federation) is working hard to have all best players playing for Lithuania in Olympics. |

 FIBA Europe announced the winner of the European player of the year award. Andrei Kirilenko led Russia to European title last September and averaged 18 points per game. Although fan voted for Ramūnas Šiškauskas, basketball experts gave 1st place to Kirilenko. Last year award winner Dirk Nowitzki came second. |

 Russian sports portal championat.ru reports that Russian forward Viktor Khryapa could be heading home. According to Chicago Tribune, Chicago Bulls terminated his contract fully compensating him. Which means that Khryapa is a free agent now and could continue his career in Russia. And what better place to do so than CSKA Moscow? Russian champions have huge gaps in their paint after the injury problems of Matjaz Smodis and Alexey Savrasenko and Khryapa could find himself a lot of playing time. |
