Antanas Sireika moves to Japan

The coach who led Lithuanian national team to gold in EuroBasket 2003 is set to continue his career in the Far East.

Antanas Sireika signed a two-year deal with the Japanese side Link Tochigi Brex. The 56-year-old coach has been in charge of BC Siauliai for the last four seasons.

Siauliai, regular third place winners in LKL, failed to retain the 3rd place and finished 4th for two years in a row. As a result of such team's perfomances, Sireika decided to move on and left the team.

"You need to go to the place where you are needed and welcomed", Sireika commented his surprising decision to move to Japan.

Sireika has also coached Zalgiris, UNICS Kazan and Lietuvos Rytas.

Link Tochigi Brex were Japanese JBL Superleague Champions in 2010 and are mainly based on the local players. There are only two foreigners on the team currently (they are both American).
