Greece point guard Nick Calathes might be forced to miss Eurobasket, due to an ankle injury sustained while training in America.

Calathes, who plays for Euroleague Final Four winners Panathinaikos isn't giving up hope though, and hopes to be fit towards mid-August.

Greece play their opening game of Group C in Alytus against Bosnia & Herzegovina on August 31st.

"I have a fractured right ankle," Calathes said. "an injury that happened while I was doing workouts in the U.S.

"The doctors told me that in three to four weeks, I'd be ready. I am working hard to be able to come back and help the national team."

The Panathinaikos point guard, born in Florida was with the Greek team in Athens. But didn't travel to the mountain resort of Karpenissi, where Greece coach Elias Zouros begins his sides' preparations.

Two other injury concerns for coach Zouros involve Stratos Perperoglou, who didn't travel to Karpenissi, due to a knock and Vassilis Spanoulis, who has an abdominal injury. The latter did travel with the squad though.

Greece finished third in the previous Eurobasket in Poland two years ago. Despite the concerns to the team, they are still contenders for a medal placing in Lithuania in September.
