Austrian League new rules and financial aid to teams

  • PDF

The Austrian League ( ÖBL ) has approved regulations regarding the transfer of players: from now on, changes in the roster are only allowed during the regular season of the Admiral Basketball Bundesliga ( ABL ).

No more transfers can be done after that part of the season is over.

On the other side, teams are required to extend the number of Austrian player in the roster to 11 out of 16 players.

The League intends to motivate the clubs to play in the international competitions, therefore the ABL will support the teams by paying their registration fee and the deposit to take part in European competitions. The ABL is thinking about to commit qualified teams to play in the European competitions from 2012/13 on.

Also, it was approved that the Austrian Supercup will be played with four teams instead of two ( champion, runner up, Cup winner and Cup finalist). The Under 22 championship will be played in a new format and higher penalties for misbehavior of coaches will be applied effective immediately.
